Can I do this week over?
Sep. 9th, 2006 01:21 amYesterday was the colonoscopy. Oh, joy and fun. This meant that, starting Tues., I was on a no raw fruit and vege diet. In the summer. Just when peaches are ripe. This is not fair. But wait, that was followed by 24 hours, starting noon Weds., of liquid diet. Jello, broth, clear juice. That was followed by getting up at 6 am Thurs. (we usually get up around 10, since we're both on Wade's shift, and he gets home around midnight) and spending the next 4 hours drinking a gallon of the vilest substance known to man. Did I mention that this vile liquid was a laxative/colon cleanser? So, you can imagine what else I did for 4 hours. Then, I got to the doctor's office. This was a new office for me, and it was actually rather cool. The clinic director is evidently a classic film buff, and had a free reign decorating the clinic. The waiting room, exam rooms and everything else except the O.R. has still from classic films (my exam room had a mural from "An American in Paris" and several framed prints from the same movie). It was rather novel to be told to "walk down the hall to Marilyn Monroe and take a left". The best part was that half of the waiting room was set up as a small theater, with films playing constantly. Since one has to be accompanied by a driver who must stay there for the whole 2-3 hours of the proceedure/recovery, this is really pretty cool.
However, my bad week held true to form when it was time to have my I.V. put in. I have 3 rather large bruises--left arm, left hand, right hand, from them trying to find a vein.
Go figure, after having expelled all that liquid, I was dehydrated. They finally got a vein in my right elbow, and it went in with no problems. The actual proceedure went fine, took things to test, won't have the results until we're back from Paris. However, the anesthetic hit like a ton of bricks. I woke up enough to remember Anthony coming back to the recovery room to get me, and I remember eating dinner at his house. I don't remember buying said dinner, which is rather scary when he told me that I drove one of the electric carts all around the store. I slept at his place until about 10, then they got me up and took me home. I was in my own bed not long after Wade got home and slept until 9 this morning.
Today wasn't too bad, I really enjoyed having coffee again, and solid food was good. It was even a productive day, until this evening about 8:30. I reached over the tool holder next to the sewing machine to close the window, which needs a bit of force to close. Somehow the tambor hook was pointing straight up, instead of point down, and it ended up embeded in my arm about 1/2 an inch. Oh, and it has a nice hook, so I couldn't get it out. So, I yelled for Housemate, who was just getting ready to leave for work, he had his ride wait, came upstairs and got me and my purse, and they drove me to Group Health. The intake people there took one look at me and got me into the triage nurse in record time. She tied the hook to my arm (I had been holding it up, since it was basically hanging from my arm and hurt like hell) took my vitals and got me into the exam room. In again record time, the Dr. was there and actually got me numbed before she even attempted to move it. She ended up making a small nick in my arm with a scalpel and it came right out. It doesn't look like much, except it's bruising around the cut, but it's pretty deep, so I got to have a tetanus shot, too. The puncture's in my right arm, the shot's in my left, so both arms hurt like hell. Oh, but that's ok, because the bruises from yesterday's needle sticks feel about the same. To top everything off, I've got about 12 hours worth of hand sewing to do that should be ready to deliver Sunday. I think I'm just going to have to tell my customer that I'll deliver it Mon. or Tues.
On second thought, I don't want a do over, I just want it all better. NOW!

Date: 2006-09-09 09:17 am (UTC)Been there
Date: 2006-09-09 03:36 pm (UTC)BTW the doctors found only one polyp with me. I get very touchy about colon cancer since that was how my father's cancer started.
I am sorry to hear about the trip to Group Health. I hope everything is better now.
Have fun at Paris. I will look forward to the report.
