Damn, damn, and damn again

Hi folks,

For those who don't know what's going on, my youngest daughter Katy's boyfriend, Aaron, was in a motorcycle accident last Thurs. evening. The car turned into the parking lot he was in, the driver didn't see him and basically ran over him. His major injury was to his leg and foot, with multiple breaks in the leg and the foot was basically crushed. The doctors didn't give him a good chance to save the foot, but they were going to transfer him to Harborview Monday, as one of the best foot surgeons in the country is there.

I just got off the phone with Katy. After a teleconference with Harborview, it was decided that there was really no point in trying to keep Aaron's foot, since the main nerve had been severed it would just mean having to amputate later on. Anyway, he's in surgery right now. He's young and in good shape other than this, but it's going to be a huge mental adjustment for him. Katy's in the process of rearranging her classes so she'll have more time to spend at the hospital; it will mean a bit longer for her to graduate, but not that much and she's fine with that. It also means that she probably won't be coming home as much this year, so we'll have to go see her more.

Oh wow... thank goodness prostetics are MILES ahead of where they used to be thanks to sports injuries and the like. A mental adjustment yes but he's in good hands...

The particular parking lot seems to attract more than its share of drivers who just plain don't look, and almost everyone speeds through there. At least they weren't going any faster.

OW. I wish I cold do more than send positive energy to all of you, but that I can send in abundance. I'm very sad to hear this news.

Please send extra hugs to the Katy, and let her know she can call me if she thinks I can help her with anything. My place is box city right now, but there is enough room for her to crash if she needs a place close to Harbourview... and if she needs crash space later, after the 15th, I've probably found a new place just a few blocks away, off 15th & John.

I will do that. They're not sending him to Harborview after all, so she won't be coming over. The hospital in Pullman is actually pretty good, since it's where the med students are trained and WSU actually has a really good med program--that's what Katy's roomate's in.

We are so sorry to hear this. I hope everything will turn out all right. Like serveral comments, it is amazing what proesthics can do now.
One of the comments to Gwen's journal said something about a cloven foot. That's a giggle.
