1880's ballgown

This is made of some of the flimsiest, lightweight sari silk imaginable.  All except for the lighter pink front panel, which is a fairly heavy brocade with real metal.  So, it's underlined with some very nice cotton sateen, which I was given because it's a rather unfortunate shade of light swamp green.  However, since the hem is faced and it will never be seen in public, I'm fine with that.  The weight is perfect.
 I still have to draft the bodice pattern, so tomorrow before I go to tea will be spent doing that, and maybe making the detachable train.  I want to make the new corset before I get too involved with fitting the bodice. 

 

Oh, and that gold trim?  That's the wrong side of it, the right side has a wide stripe of forest green down the center, but I have 45 yards of it, and this side works just fine.
