Sep. 19th, 2007 07:18 pmToday Sir Gerald of Galloway went to the Summerlands. Pancreatic cancer, a painful way to go, and I surely wouldn't wish him any more pain. It's been several years since I've seen him, and we never were terribly close.....
.....Except we all were, once. 30 years ago, if you were in the SCA, and especially if you were in the same principality, you had a sort of closeness, just because there weren't that many of us wierdos around.
He was the first Knight made in An Tir. He was directly responsible for training the first generation of An Tir Knights, and indirectly responsible for most of the rest. He was Black Lion Herald when the Principality (now Kingdom) device was designed and passed. He was as much a part of the fabric of An Tir as Janeltis, and the hole he leaves is as great.
I keep thinking, we were all so young then.........

Date: 2007-09-20 04:28 pm (UTC)You know though - I notice that many of the people you know who died really lived life to the end and probably slid into the summerlands saying "Wow! What a ride!" Not sure that helps but it's just a thought I had...
