4. How did you come up with your name?
Pure fantasy that ended up being plausible in period. I’ve had many people independently call me a mermaid, and I like the Melusine legend a lot.
5. Where and when did your persona live?
This incarnation of Melusine was born in the south of France in 1600. Currently she’s living in Paris in 1635.
6. What is your Known World Location?
Barony of Blatha An Oir, Kingdom of An Tir.
7. What kingdom do you consider to be your home?
An Tir.
8. How long have you played?
Since 1976.
9. How did you get started?
My mother was helping to run an arts festival that included an SCA demo. I took one look and was hooked.
10. Why did you join?
I was already wearing vintage clothes and costumes whenever possible, and the SCA felt like coming home..
11. Have you registered a name?
Yes, but my registered name is actually Melisenda. The only place it’s ever been used is on my Laurel scroll.
12. Have you registered a device?
Yes.: Per bend wavy purpure and vert, in chief three estoiles and in base a mermaid in her vanity argent.
13. What awards have you been granted? In what kingdom did you receive these awards?
All in An Tir, and in no particular order, Award of Arms, Jambe de Lion, Goutte de Sang, Laurel, Golden Blossom, Panther’s Torch, Briar, Gant d’Or
14. How many events do you attend each year?
At least 6, and some years as much as 3-4 per month.
15. What is the best event you have ever been to?
There’s so many good ones to remember that I can’t even begin to list them.
16. What is the worst event you have ever been to?
Got to be a tie between Autumn War 2001 and War Crown.
17. What event do you make it to every year?
I try to make it to the Crown events, but I’ve had to miss a few. June Fair is one I at least day-trip. I think I made it to every Guard Wars.
18. What event do you refuse to go to?
Well, I haven’t had a good time at Autumn War since 2001, but I’ve had to be at most of them since then, although I’ve managed to just day-trip. I’m hoping this year will be better.
19. Who is your favorite person to hang at an event with?
I like seeing people I don’t see all the time at events, and I like hanging out with the rapier folks.
20. What activities do you participate in?
Period clothes, persona specific encampment, food, needlework,—ok, anything persona specific, music, rapier, marshalling.
21. What activity would you like to learn?
Shoemaking, silversmithing, maiolica painting,
22. Are you a marshal?
Yep, Junior Rapier and Heavy, although I’m working on Senior in both
23. How many tents have you had destroyed at events?
None, but I’ve helped fly Knut and Hroswitha’s bookstore twice.
24. Has your garb ever caught on fire?
I’ve been camping and cooking over wood fires my whole life, no way I’m catching on fire.
25. Have you ever woke up in a strange person’s tent?
Yep, in my young and crazy days.

Yes, a French Bell that Gwalchgwyn and I made. We’re working on a kitchen fly

28. Do you ever want to be a peer?
I always said that I wanted to do work worthy of being considered for a peerage. I’ve found for the most part that being a peer has made it easier to do some good, but otherwise I’m still the same geek I was before.

Not in the least, but I do prefer mimosas

Well, I’m a cadet to my apprentice :)

I don’t know if it was the funniest, but executing a perfect draw cut to my opponent’s groin right after he told me that he’d go easy on me because I was a girl was sure satisfying.

Yep, was part of my job, and I’ve tested people on it, too

The moments when the modern world goes away, and I can touch the past.
