We discovered today, upon trying to go out to lunch, that sometime between about 5 pm Sunday the 24th, and 1pm today, the 26th, our one working vehicle had been stolen.  It also had my folding wheelchair in the back.  So, we spent a while this afternoon talking to the police, then doing a few things involving the auto parts store and standing in the rain to work on one of the other cars to get it running enough to get Wade to and from work for the next few days until we can get the truck to the mechanic and actually fixed.  I'm hoping the van will be found in one piece, but I'm not holding my breath.  No, we didn't have theft insurance on it, when you have 15 year old cars, the cost of theft and comprehensive insurance is more than they're worth.

So, while we're covered as far as back and forth to work is concerned, the condition of the currently working van is "iffy".  There's a switch problem that requires the battery to be disconnected when the van's parked, since the lights won't turn off.  Also, the brakes are on their last gasp, so we really don't want to drive that much. However, we could get this one on the road with just a new battery, unlike the truck, which needs carburator work which can only be done by one of three people in Pierce Co.  We will get that in to the shop ASAP, probably Friday morning, but I don't expect it to be done before Monday. So, if we were supposed to visit you this week, we're not gonna make it unless you're willing to provide transport.

Wanna borrow the Geo? I've got the Sienna so the Geo is sitting... It gets excellent gas mileage but it is a "bubble on wheels"... :)

I'll ask Wade about that, but it sounds like a good idea to me.

It may be covered under our homeowners insurance, but I think it's worth less than the deductable. Right now I'm not needing to use it unless I go for an extended shopping trip, so I'm just going to do without for a while.

This is TERRIBLE. I hope you get the car and the wheelcar back.

You know we could get some of the ladies together for A&S demo of period behavior modifacation techniques.

I've had a bunch of fantasies about what I'd like to do to the miscreant(s). I think the mace would be too humane.

That's just horrible. I hope the police catch them and make them give restitution!

I can't even imagine what that would be like. Good luck in recovering your stolen property.
