Ooooh, shiny! Did I show you the book I got on the silk industry in Venice. It not only talks about the quality and the ratings, but what some less honorable did to make lesser quality fibers and dyes look more expensive than they were.
I LOVE that color!!! Pity it's Dupioni... Otherwise... ;> Isn't the way silk takes color, just the best?? Would you believe I found some silk velvet in almost that same color...and leather too!
OMG! Those are gorgeous! The silvers are what I was drawn to, but the golds and yellows are breathtaking. Makes me want to refine my sewing skills to work with it.
This stuff isn't hard to sew with at all. The problem is, it ravels, so you have to do something to finish the edges before it all ravels away (I run mine through the serger) AND it's way to slubby for period clothing. That being said, the dress in my icon is made out of it, because it was the perfect color, and I couldn't find a non-slubby fabric I liked.
I love my serger(it's only the tiny serger, but that's all I need). I use that stuff for lining for my beaded purses so that's not a problem. Thanks for getting me turned onto the site, though.
Yes...such a pity about its not being good for period work, because the stiffness, sheen, and colors are just so fabulous. I think my other reply sounded as if I don't love Dupioni. But I do! It's such a disappointment that I can't use it for 16th c. period gowns. *le sigh* Howevever...I have been sorely tempted. And I have done a corset and petticoat in it, which turned out wonderfully, but outer layers...haven't gone there yet.
I'd like to do the same. I've ordered a lot of fabric from him and all of it's been wonderful, as has been the service. I just want him to extend the color range of the taffeta.
